The Habit of Reading

I notice that the perception is that mostly , girls read.( This is totally untrue having spent the better part of the last decade amongst girls who go nowhere near a book unless its got a pic of some celebrity ) . To say the truth I grew up in a family where I would see my dad read , my mum read , my brother on the other hand would not touch books with the end of the Barge pole if they did not include pictures . His fave were the Archies, Tintin , Astrix and Obelix , Amar Chitra Katha ( which incidentally is responsible for a lot of knowledge) . (My brother went on subsequently to do his MBA and reminds me all the time the one liner - I have never let my schooling interfere with my education.)

St Xaviers happened to have a massive library and all were supposed to take books home to read . My brother would dutifully pick up the Hardy Boys, Nancy Drews , Enid Blytons , Alfred Hitchcocks for me thus being totally responsible for my reading habits ..

It irks him now if I read books while he thinks I should be conversing ( ha ha ha)

Over the years I have turned a voracious reader , books make you see another point of view one that you might not necessarily agree but will give you a insight of how anothers mind works .

I do not necessarily think people who read are more cerebral than ones who dont read just perhaps more open to accept anothers view point . Its like they agree to disagree and move on without being belligerant and vociforous about their viewpoint.

Its like watching a movie though a movie is always the directores vision . His interpretation .

I read blogs albeit a very select few very dedicatedly . Its got to become a habit to hit these pages daily to see what has come on today. If I dont see updates find it disappointing ..

Adat ho chuki hai teri ....
