Yes we are talking of A.R.Rehman
He has been all over the media globally finally getting the recognition he deserves . Slumdog Millionaire may not showcase India in the light it so rightfully deserves but what it does bring to light is the talent the country has in spades ...
Everyone with or without a musical bone in their body now knows who Rehman is .
I remember when I first came to Auckland and ventured in a music store as I am apt to do ( you will always find me checking the music and book stores in any country/city where ever in the big wide world I am) and a perfect stranger walks up and asked me have you heard Rehman's music ?
I answered yes I have ! Have you?
today I guess the question is redundent .. Which brings me to my train of thoughts I do not consider Jai ho to be spectacular ,no where near the Dil se or chaiya chaiya from Dil se or the songs from Taal ... Nahi samne is a rendition so soulfull . Even the latest Delhi 6 .. Rehmans music and Binod Pradhans cinematography are the two things apart from the acting of stalwarts that save the movie from falling flat on its face ( it is a thinkers movie )
My pick of Rehman's compositions would be
.1 Dil Hain Chota Sa (Roja)
2. Humma Humma (Bombay)
3. Kabhi Neem Neem (Yuva)
4. Saathiya (Saathiya)
5. Roobaroo (Rang De Basanti)
6. Ye Jo Desh Hain Tera (Swadesh)
7. Rut Aa Gayi Re (1947 Earth)
8. Chaiyya Chaiyya (Dil Se)
9. Maa Tujhe Salaam (Vande Mataram)
10. Yai Re (Rangeela)
11. O Re Chori (Lagaan)
12. Hum Hain Is Pal Yahan (Kisna)
13. Dil Se Re (Dil Se)
14. Dil gira kahi (Delhi-6)
15. Nahi samne ( Taal)
Enjoy .......
